Chopta Chandrashila Tungnath Trek

Duration of Tour:- 3 Nights 4 Days

Day 1: Pick Up from Delhi/Rishikesh - Ride to Chopta (450 km)

We start the Tungnath Trek by having one of our representatives pick you up from either New Delhi or Rishikesh. If you are departing from New Delhi, timing may range from 8 PM to 11 PM, at a pre-arranged location in Delhi. However, if you are departing from Rishikesh, you can expect to be picked up any time between 3 AM and 5 AM. As you make your way from Rishikesh to Chopta, be prepared to be mesmerized by the beautiful views of lush valleys and river meeting points as you pass through Devprayag, Srinagar, and Rudraprayag. When you reach Chopta, our guides will check you into warm camps which are nestled amidst the breathtaking views provided by the Himalayas. Once settled, you may have a delectable meal beneath the stars. In the beginning of the evening, the guides will introduce themselves and brief you about the trek, making you all set to go on your adventure which lies ahead of you. For the night, rest in your tent or camp while taking in the serene environment of Chopta, which is also referred to as “The Mini Switzerland of India.” These two days are a great start to your trekking in the Incredible Himalayas.

Day 2: Enjoy Chopta and its Scenic Beauty | Altitude: 7,874 ft

Chopta can be described in many ways, but one word that often pops out during the conversation is "beautiful". Standing tall at an elevation of 7,874 feet, it is no wonder why Chopta is known for breathtaking Himalayan views as well as rich green meadows and hills. Not only does this village offer stunning views, but it also marks the beginning of the Tungnath Trek, which is why it is often called the Swiss region of India. Once you have settled down in the camps, you will have enough time to relax and decompress from the long flight. Due to its peacefulness, you will be able to relish a nice meal as well. On the other hand, you will be greeted by your tour guides who will provide you with a talk on what to expect during the trek. Otherwise, feel free to explore the beauty of Chopta at your convenience.

Day 3: Tungnath and Chandrashila trek | 5.5-km | 2370-m to 4000-m altitude

Today you are going to start your trek towards Chandrashila fortifying yourself with a good breakfast first. Visiting the Tungnath Temple, the world’s tallest Shiva temple, should be a perfect start to your day. The 5.5 km long trail consists of easy to moderate climbs and takes about 3 to 4 hours to finish which offers great sightings of thick forests, the flowering rhododendrons and the spectacular views of the entire range of Himalayas , including peaks of Nanda Devi and Trishul. You will reach the Tungnath Temple after crossing the last height of 12,073 ft, this height seems to be the highest point of anything absolutely spiritual. And then you are all set to explore the temple!! Take your time to enjoy the pristine nature around the temple. Then again just a few miles ahead comes the Chandrashila Summit which is a great experience at a height of 13,123 ft and has a slope that is steep but worth the effort. Rain and Fog will add miserable appreciation to the experience but the views are worth it.

Let’s start off the day by getting out of your hotel in the Chopta area and begin your long drive to Sari Village, which is a beautiful town situated in the Garhwal region. After some trekking, you will reach the size where you’ll set your eyes on the magnificent Deoria Tal Lake where you would be able to see the Chaukhamba peak. Due to such wonderful scenery, this location is great for anyone who admires nature or even for photographers. If you aren’t one of them, you can still enjoy the views of the snow covered mountains while relaxing. Once the sightseeing is done, you can commence your journey back to Sari Village where you can grab a meal before continuing your drive back to Delhi. This would also be the perfect time for you to enjoy one final view of the Garhwal Himalayas.
